Road reopens following mudslide
A mudslide prompted the closure of a section of road near Hartland. Following days of rain, the ground gave way on a hill around 7pm Wednesday, covering a section of route 104 with mud, rocks and trees. The force of the slide also damaged a power pole and snapped a number of lines, causing nearly 600 NB Power customers to lose electricity. The road was shut down for several hours while crews worked to remove the debris. There have been no reports of injuries.
Meanwhile, this week's rain has contributed to a dozen people in Saint John being forced from their apartments. The Red Cross is helping the five adults and seven children after rain compromised the electrical system of their three-unit building; the fire department has deemed the aging structure unsafe until repairs are made. Those people will likely be out of their homes for at least a couple days.
