ATV deaths on the rise

The RCMP says the number of deaths in all-terrain vehicle accidents in the province is at its highest level in four years. Police say drinking and a lack of helmet use have played major roles in eight fatal ATV crashes so far this year. In six of the cases, alcohol was involved, while in five the victim was not wearing a helmet. Staff Sergeant Stephane Caron says the deaths were ``totally preventable tragedies.'' The Mounties say eight people died in ATV accidents last year, while five were killed in 2010 and another five died in 2009.
