Battle honour awarded to the Royal New Brunswick Regiment

Ottawa is paying tribute to military regiments that successfully defended Canada during the war of 1812. In several ceremonies Friday across the country, battle honours were awarded to regiments with ties to units that won decisive battles in the war. One of those units is the Royal New Brunswick Regiment, which has received the "Niagara" battle honours. New Brunswick Southwest M-P John Williamson was in Fredericton to make the announcement. He explains the regiment can now emblazon the honour, along with the theatre honour of Defence of Canada, 1812-1815, on their regimental colours -- the symbolic banner carried by units into war. Williamson admits this honour may be lost on the layman...
This is all part of celebrations commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
