Folk-pop duo
the Story were comprised of singer/songwriters
Jonatha Brooke and
Jennifer Kimball, who first teamed up in 1981 while freshmen at Amherst College. Originally appearing under the name Jonatha & Jennifer, they performed regularly throughout the Boston area until graduation, at which time
Brooke joined a dance company and
Kimball joined a publishing firm. The occasional gig followed, however; in 1989, they finally recorded a demo, dubbed
Over Oceans, and were quickly signed by the Green Linnet label. Changing their name to
the Story, their debut LP
Grace in Gravity appeared in 1991; Elektra then snapped up the duo, reissuing the album a year later.
Angel in the House followed in 1993, but a year later
the Story dissolved; both
Brooke and
Kimball continued on as solo performers.
