Eat New Brunswick

KHJ Country is very proud to sponsor the first Eat New Brunswick event taking place now until October 26th.

12 local restaurants are giving people the opportunity to try special dishes made completely from home grown products and flavours.

The event gives chefs a chance to experiment with NB sourced ingredients and to shake up their menus a bit.

KHJ will be sampling some of these special dishes and then giving listeners a chance to win a $25 gift certificate from one of the restaurants.

The First Shift Hockey Program

The First Shift is an incentive that FYHA will be offering for the 2014-15 season in partnership with Bauer and Hockey Canada.. The First Shift is open to boys and girls, ages 6-11 who have never registered in hockey before.

A Touch More Jazz Fundraising Gala

 Fredericton Arts Alliance Fundraising Gala A Touch More Jazz is the theme for this evening of art, wine, and song planned for Thursday, October 23. There will be a live auction of exciting work created by our fine artists. Dianne Roxborough Brown on piano will open festivities, and the Alex Bailey Swing Band will offer a chance to dance or at least snap your fingers! There will also be a silent auction of art, crafts, books, theatre- dance- and film tickets, and much more. All this to support the programs of the FAA, including the weekly Arts News.

Come out to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, starting at 7 pm, for a fun-filled evening with a good cause.

Tickets, at $40 per person, include a complimentary drink and lots of excellent nibbles. Available at Westminster Books, from members of the FAA Board, at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre (call first please: 453-3731) and at the door if there are any left.

Alzheimer Society Memory Cafe

The Alzheimer Society’s new Memory Café is a program that combines education, socialization and activity within a safe and inclusive space. It is for both those diagnosed with dementia and their loved ones to attend. The Café is held on the last Sunday of each month from 2-4pm at the Saint John Anglican Church, 75 Main Street, free coffee and snacks provided. The next Memory Café is on October 26th with entertainment provided by Mike Bravener “Elvis”.

The movie charts the ridiculous lengths to which a small Newfoundland Community will go to secure a factory and much needed employment for the town after the collapse of the local fishing industry. Beer 'n Stein

At 7pm on Thursday, October 30th at Gallery 78, don a costume and come celebrate fine crafts at “Beer 'n Stein”, a Halloween-themed 50th Anniversary fundraiser presented by the New Brunswick Crafts Council and Picaroons Traditional Ales. Ticketholders receive 1 free Picaroons beer and can choose 1 handcrafted beer stein OR 1 handcrafted stein stuffer (woven scarves, jewellery etc). Plus an evening of music, a spooky photobooth, delicious finger food from the Lunar Rogue Pub, silent film screenings, handmade masks and props by Hammerthreads, and a costume contest.

Family Law Workshop

A family law workshop on the topic “Doing your own Divorce” is being offered in Fredericton at Ludlow Hall, Room 15, UNB Campus, on Thursday, October 30th from 7-9 p.m. The presenter will be David Dunsmuir, a local area lawyer.  This family law workshop is part of a monthly series called Navigating the Family Justice System.  It is an initiative of Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick (PLEIS-NB). The workshop is intended to help individuals who are handling their own family law matters to better understand how to complete and file forms and follow proper court procedures for an uncontested divorce.

Central NB Beer Festival

On November 1st The first annual Central NB Beer Festival will be held at the Upper Miramichi Lions Club in conjunction with Picaroons. Tickets are $20 each. The RWB School will be holding auditions for all three of the RWB School professional training programs: the full-time Ballet Academic Program for students from grades 6 to 12, and RWB School's two graduate programs (Aspirant Program and the Teacher Training Program). Every student with a dream to dance or teach professionally is encouraged to attend.

Those who audition have the opportunity to win a full tuition scholarship for the four week Summer Session taking place in July 2015. The four week Summer Session serves as the second phase of the audition process for the full-time program.  Pre-registration is recommended and prospective students are encouraged to register now.  All pre-registrations will be entered to win one of four custom designed bodysuits from Elevé Dancewear. The RWB School also accepts walk up auditions the day-of and auditions by DVD are also accepted.
